Rather than fearing the credit card game, the rich and powerful know how important building good credit is and how having the right credit cards at the right time are important for financial success.

Here are my picks for the best credit cards at each age.

Ages 13-17

So technically, anyone under 18 cannot own a credit card. That’s it, thanks for reading…

JUST KIDDING. Yes, it is true, you cannot own a credit card under 18, but that does not stop you from becoming an authorized user of a credit card and building credit.

Here’s the answer. Whatever card your parent(s) have the most healthy credit history on is the card to choose. When building credit as a young teen, the owner of the credit card that you are now an authorized user of, transfers over their great credit history to you, thus boosting your credit score.

If you’re in the boat of many people where your parents credit is less than desirable, then I would not recommend becoming an authorized user and waiting till 18 to get a personal credit card.

Ages 18-20

This age is all about building basic level credit. Cards such as student cards and secured cards are going to be your best bet. If your just starting out in the game, I highly recommend click the link below and getting started!
